PAINTING WORKSHOPS & CLASSES

Join me for a relaxed, inspiring and hands-on painting experience, where I share the techniques, materials and creative processes I use in my own studio practice as a professional artist. Based mainly at my Ditchling studio in Sussex, my painting workshops and classes are designed to help you build confidence, develop your skills and enjoy the creative process in a supportive and welcoming environment.
All sessions are suitable for beginners through to those with some painting experience. Whether you’re looking for a short creative introduction or the opportunity to immerse yourself more fully over several weeks, each format offers clear guidance, encouragement and time to explore your own expressive approach to painting.
All materials are provided unless otherwise stated, and group sizes are kept small to ensure plenty of individual guidance throughout.
Workshop & Class Format
One Day Painting Workshops (Process-Led)
These immersive, process-led workshops allow you to explore a subject or theme in greater depth. Working step by step, you’ll be guided through the full painting process, learning key acrylic techniques such as layering, texture, mark-making and colour harmony, while developing a completed artwork to take home.
One Day Workshops are taught in my stylised signature themes: Abstract Floral, Contemporary Floral, Meadow Landscape and Abstract Forest — each designed to help you understand structure, composition and expressive technique through a clear, guided process.
Taster Painting Workshops (Process-Led, approx. 3 hours)
Ideal if you’re new to acrylic painting or short on time, these relaxed, process-led sessions provide a gentle introduction to the medium. They’re also a popular way to experience my teaching style and techniques before committing to a longer workshop or class.
Taster Workshops explore my signature expressive themes Meadow Alchemy, Painterly Wildflower and Expressive Field Landscape, guiding you through key stages of the painting process while building confidence with colour, texture and composition.
Seasonal Landscape Painting Courses
Held over four consecutive weeks, these classes offer the opportunity to slow down and fully immerse yourself in the painting process. Each course focuses on a single landscape theme, allowing time to build layers, refine composition and develop a more considered and confident piece. This format is particularly suited to those wishing to deepen their understanding of tone, atmosphere and technique through sustained practice.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a strong, well-resolved painting that reflects both your growing skills and your personal interpretation of the landscape. As with all expressive work, refinement can continue beyond the classroom, and many students enjoy adding further subtle adjustments or finishing touches at home — equipped with the knowledge and confidence to do so.
Half-Day Seasonal Landscape Workshops
These extended sessions offer a relaxed yet immersive introduction to my seasonal landscape approach. Inspired by the changing mood, colour and atmosphere of the countryside, you’ll explore a more intuitive and expressive way of painting rather than following a fixed step-by-step process. With guidance, demonstrations and individual support throughout, you’ll develop a personal response to the landscape using layered acrylic techniques, colour and texture.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a well-developed painting that captures the essence of the scene — a strong foundation that may be complete in itself, or something you may choose to continue refining at home. Just as with my own work, truly finished paintings often evolve over time, and you’ll leave with the confidence and understanding to know how to take it further if you wish.
Whichever option you choose, you’ll be supported in a friendly, encouraging environment that makes painting enjoyable and accessible.
