Painting Workshops in East Sussex

Learn the techniques I use in my work as a professional artist, in a relaxed and inspiring setting.

I offer two distinct workshop experiences — studio-based sessions for regular, small-group learning, and full-day workshops at carefully selected guest venues.

Studio Workshops (Ditchling Studio)

Held at my studio at Turner Dumbrell Workshops in Ditchling, East Sussex, these sessions are designed to be accessible, immersive, and supportive, with small group sizes allowing for plenty of one-to-one guidance.

Focused and inspiring sessions, ideal if you’re short on time but want a rewarding creative experience.

  • 3½ to 4½ hours
  • £60 – £75 per person
  • Small groups (maximum 6)
  • All materials included

You’ll learn the techniques and processes I use in my own work, creating your own artwork to take home.

👉 Perfect for beginners and those looking to build confidence in a relaxed and inspiring setting.

A deeper, more structured learning experience developed over multiple sessions.

  • 4-week courses (10 hours total tuition)
  • Morning: £140 | Evening: £120
  • New composition each month, inspired by the changing seasons

These courses focus on building atmosphere, light, and depth through a layered approach to painting.

👉 Ideal if you’d like to develop your skills over time.

My full-day workshops are now held exclusively at selected guest venues, offering a more immersive, experience-led day in beautiful surroundings.

These workshops are designed to feel like a creative day out, combining painting with the atmosphere of a special location.

What to expect

  • Full-day guided workshop
  • Carefully chosen venues such as Leonardslee Gardens
  • Lunch and refreshments included (venue dependent)
  • A more spacious, relaxed pace across the day

👉 Perfect if you’re looking for a special experience, a gift, or a creative day away.

Florals & stylised landscapes

Process-led workshops exploring my signature expressive style.

These Morning Workshops explore my signature expressive themes, Meadow Alchemy, Painterly Wildflower and Expressive Meadow Landscape, guiding you through key stages of the painting process while building confidence with colour, texture and composition, using acrylics on board

Atmospheric, organic landscapes

These longer half-day Afternoon Workshops focus on developing a more natural, atmospheric approach to landscape painting.

Inspired by light, depth and the changing countryside, you’ll learn how to build a layered landscape using acrylic techniques that reflect my own studio practice.

Structured, multi-week courses exploring landscape painting through seasonal compositions

Held over four consecutive weeks, these classes offer the opportunity to slow down and fully immerse yourself in the painting process. Each course focuses on a single landscape theme, allowing time to build layers, refine composition and develop a more considered and confident piece. This format is particularly suited to those wishing to deepen their understanding of tone, atmosphere and technique through sustained practice.

Stylised Landscapes, Florals & Forests

These immersive, process-led workshops allow you to explore a subject or theme in greater depth. Working step by step, you’ll be guided through the full painting process, learning key acrylic techniques such as layering, texture, mark-making and colour harmony, while developing a completed artwork to take home.

Full Day Workshops are taught in my stylised signature themes: Abstract Floral, Contemporary Floral, Meadow Landscape and Abstract Forest — each designed to help you understand structure, composition and expressive technique through a clear, guided process.
