Half Day Painting Workshops – 3½ Hours

Stylised Landscape and Floral

Curious about painting but not sure where to start? Or perhaps you’ve been thinking about joining one of my full day workshops but want to dip your toe in first?

Immersive and inspiring 3½ hour Workshops packed with techniques drawn from my longer one-day painting workshops. These sessions are thoughtfully designed to pack a rich creative experience into a shorter format, allowing you to explore key techniques, colour and process in a focused and supportive setting.

While some participants choose to continue on to longer workshops, many enjoy returning to the Morning Workshops again and again – using them as an opportunity to practise techniques, build confidence, and develop their painting in manageable, enjoyable stages.

We’ll be working with acrylics on board, and in just 3½ hours, you’ll come away with your own little masterpiece — a unique piece of art to take home and be proud of

Run from the comfort of my Studio in Ditchling, East Sussex, in a supportive and nurturing environment with an intimate group of up to six people, allowing one to one tuition.

These workshops are SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS, the methods we’ll be using are easy to learn and apply.

PLEASE NOTE:
The images shown across the Half Day Workshops, illustrate examples of paintings created using the same techniques and process taught during the sessions, but in different colour palettes. The specific colours used on the day may vary, as a selected palette is chosen for each workshop. However, alternative colour options can often be accommodated, including palettes shown in the example images. If you have a preferred colour palette, please mention this in the ‘Additional Information’ section when booking and I will take this into consideration, where possible.

If you’re unable to attend the listed dates but have a few friends who would be interested in joining you, I’m always happy to arrange a workshop to suit your group. Contact Me and we can find a date that works.

‘Meadow Alchemy’

Process-led: paint rolling, dripping & spattering with sculpted impasto flowers

image

Meadow Alchemy explores a process-led approach to creating a contemporary wildflower landscape using acrylics on board.

We’ll start by setting the scene and applying a soft gradient background. From there, we’ll add movement and energy with loose layers of wild grasses and stems, using different techniques such as paint rolling, dripping, and playful paint spattering.

There is minimal use of traditional brushwork for grasses and stems, allowing texture and mark-making to lead the composition. Textured impasto flowers are then applied using spatulas, emerging from the surface as bold, abstract floral forms. The piece is completed with raised seed heads and subtle metallic highlights that catch the light, creating a richly layered painting where the meadow evolves through process, texture and discovery.

‘Painterly Wildflower’

Expressive brush-led grasses and seedheads, enriched with textured sponging and sculpted impasto flowers

image

This workshop focuses on creating a soft, painterly wildflower landscape using acrylics on board. You’ll begin by building a textured, atmospheric background with sponged layers of colour, before developing flowing grasses, stems and seed heads using expressive brushwork to create movement, rhythm and structure across the painting.

Textured impasto flowers form the focal points and are applied using spatulas, adding sculptural depth and richness to the surface. Painted stems and layered colour sit around these bold floral forms, with subtle metallic accents bringing light and detail to the composition. The emphasis in this workshop is on brush-led mark-making to describe the meadow, resulting in a contemporary wildflower painting with energy, flow and painterly expression.

‘Expressive Meadow Landscape’

A dreamy landscape created through loose movement and layered texture

This workshop focuses on creating a simple yet magical composition featuring a colourful meadow with trees on the horizon set against a softly glowing sky. Intricate layers of flecked paint evoke wildflowers scattered across the landscape, adding depth, texture, and movement. Gentle colour blending and a soft haze over the horizon give the scene a dreamlike, atmospheric quality.

Working with acrylics on board, this session combines easy brushwork with expressive techniques using a variety of tools such as paint rollers, silicone spatulas, stencil brushes, sea sponges, and gutta (a water-based metallic liner).
