Capture the warmth and atmosphere of a midsummer evening in this immersive Seasonal Landscape Studio Day. Inspired by the golden glow of sunlight spilling across a wildflower meadow, this composition celebrates the beauty of long summer days, luminous skies, and the delicate textures of grasses and wildflowers dancing in the light.

Working on a 42cm x 36cm MDF board, you’ll be guided step-by-step in creating a larger-scale landscape painting, exploring techniques that bring depth, movement, and atmosphere to your work. We’ll focus on building an expansive sky filled with soft cloud formations, creating the illusion of glowing sunlight, and developing layers of meadow grasses and seasonal wildflowers that lead the eye through the composition.

Using acrylics, you’ll learn how to balance colour, light, texture, and detail to create a painting full of mood and luminosity. Particular emphasis will be placed on capturing the fleeting quality of summer light and the sense of openness that makes these landscapes so captivating.

As this is a larger-scale composition than my shorter workshops, the emphasis will be on developing the core painting during the studio day, giving you the techniques and confidence to continue refining and personalising your work afterwards if you wish.

Suitable for beginners and more experienced painters alike, this relaxed and supportive studio day offers the opportunity to develop your skills while creating a beautiful seasonal landscape inspired by the Sussex countryside.

Practical Information

As this is a larger-scale composition with several stages to complete, we’ll be keeping the lunch break to 30 minutes to allow plenty of painting time throughout the day.

Please bring your own lunch and any snacks you may wish to have during the workshop. Light refreshments, including tea, coffee, and biscuits, will be provided.

We’ll be working on a 42cm x 36cm MDF board, allowing us to explore a more ambitious composition while still developing the key elements of the painting within the studio day.
