Spend a full day immersed in the beauty of the English countryside as we create this atmospheric landscape inspired by the soft light of early autumn mornings.

This workshop focuses on capturing mood, light and depth through expressive acrylic techniques that reflect my own studio practice. Working on a 45cm x 38cm board, you’ll learn how to build a landscape in layers, creating glowing skies, distant mist, delicate meadow textures and a strong sense of atmosphere.

Throughout the day, I’ll guide you through the techniques I use to create luminous skies, subtle colour transitions, soft mist effects and natural-looking grasses and wildflowers. We’ll explore how to balance detail with freedom, allowing the painting to feel both realistic and painterly.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a well-developed landscape painting and a deeper understanding of how to create light-filled, atmospheric countryside scenes using acrylics. Many paintings will be complete by the end of the day, while others may continue to evolve afterwards — just as my own work often does. You’ll leave with the skills, techniques and confidence to further refine and develop your painting at home if you choose.

With a maximum of five participants, you’ll benefit from plenty of individual guidance and support throughout the day.

Suitable for beginners and more experienced painters alike, this workshop offers a friendly and inspiring studio environment where you can develop new skills while creating your own atmospheric landscape to take home.

Practical Information

As this is a larger-scale composition with several stages to complete, we’ll be keeping the lunch break to 30 minutes to allow plenty of painting time throughout the day.

Please bring your own lunch and any snacks you may wish to have during the workshop. Light refreshments, including tea, coffee, and biscuits, will be provided.

We’ll be working on a 45cm x 38cm MDF board, allowing us to explore a more ambitious composition.
